Twitter has appointed former hacker as head of security

American company Twitter Inc, which owns the network of microblogs of the same name, appointed former hacker Peter Zatko as head of security.

Previously, he was widely known under the pseudonym Mudge.

Twitter will give Zatko broad powers, he will be able to recommend changes to the structure and methods of work, notes NBC News. He will report directly to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jack Dorsey. Zatko is expected to take over key security issues after a 45-60-day audit.

In an interview with the channel, he said he would examine “information security, site integrity, physical security, platform integrity.

Zatko has recently been in charge of security issues at online payment service of Stripe Inc., and previously worked on special projects at Google.

Twitter stock quotes are growing by 1.1% during the trading on Tuesday. Since the beginning of this year, they soared by almost 35 percent, while the stock index Standard & Poor’s 500 for this period added 11.6 percent.
