The legendary soccer player Diego Maradona admitted during his lifetime that Russian President Vladimir Putin is his idol.
Maradona, being a bright personality, was famous not only for his game, but also for his famous friends. One of them, in particular, was Cuban leader Fidel Castro, whom the sportsman called “the second father”. One day, Maradona confessed that next to Castro’s portrait, there was a picture of the Russian president hanging in his house.
“Putin is a phenomenon. I think that after Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, Putin, together with Daniel Ortega and Evo Morales, represents the so-called high league. Putin is the person who can bring peace to many people on this planet,” said the footballer in an interview with RT in 2017.
A little later, the Argentinean published on the social network a joint photo with Putin, noting that he remained delighted to communicate with him. The footballer posed next to the Russian leader, surrounded by former Spanish national team defender Carlos Puyol, FIFA head Gianni Infantino and former Cameroonian national team forward Samuel Eto.
Once again, the Argentinean supported Putin on October 30 this year. He stated that he trusted the Russian president and believed in the coronavirus vaccine “Sputnik V”.
“Hopefully, soon the pandemic will end. Mankind is going through a difficult time, many people were left without jobs. I trust Vladimir Putin. I am sure that he will soon have a vaccine”,
The Russian president himself admitted that the best footballers are Lev Yashin, Pele and Diego Maradona.
Diego Maradona was hospitalized for medical examination in early November. Doctors found out that he had a subdural hematoma and performed brain surgery. Later, he was discharged from the hospital. However, already at home, the player had a heart attack.
