The largest trial in the last 30 years of 300 Mafia gang members in Italy

The largest trial in the last 30 years for members of the mafia organization Ndrangheta is taking place in the city of Lamezia Terme.

There are 355 suspected mafia bosses in the dock, as well as officials, businessmen and lawyers suspected of collusion with them. During the preliminary hearing it took three hours just to list the names of the alleged criminals, reports the publication The Local.

The defendants in the case are accused of committing a series of crimes in the 90s. The list includes: money laundering, extortion, murder, drug trafficking and abuse of power. The trial will be held in a specially secured building. More than 900 witnesses are scheduled to testify.
