Sixteen-year-old cat Gli will stay at St. Sophia’s Cathedral in Istanbul

The famous cat Gli, which was seen by almost anyone who visited the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Istanbul, will stay there even after the museum became a mosque. This was stated by the spokesman for the Presidential Administration of Turkey, Ibrahim Kalın, reports the Turkish TV channel TRT.

Cat Gli has its own page in Instagram, where it has 54 thousand subscribers. The animal became especially popular after it met with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Recep Erdogan and US President Barack Obama in 2009.

Gli was born in 2004. Almost from the very beginning she was tutored by the Turkish archaeologist Defne Bali, who has worked for many years in St. Sophia.
