Gene from BTS goes into the army

Share it

We all believed and hoped that banteras would make an exception, but no. Today, Oct. 9, the MMA announced that they would not allow indulgence to the boycott, citing principles of justice and equality for all South Koreans.

In the past, however, there have been cases where exceptions could be made for successful athletes and prominent public figures. For example, footballer Hen Minson, also known as Sonny, was released from the army because he brought gold for South Korea in 2018.

Despite the debate and calls by politicians to make the BTS an exception, the MMA has not backed down from its principles. Idols will not be granted any exceptions. At most, they may be granted a postponement.

At present, everyone is waiting with a sinking heart for a decision on a revised bill that will allow k-pop stars to postpone their march into the army – not until they are 30, as they are now, but at a later age.

Let’s see if we can get Gene into the army in time or if he will have a chance to perform with banteras for several more years.
