Deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly are preparing for consideration in the second reading at the autumn session of the bill on amendment of the law “On citizenship of the Republic of Belarus”.

“There is a possibility of loss of Belarusian citizenship due to participation in terrorist and other extremist activities or causing serious harm to the interests of Belarus,” said Deputy Maria Vasilevich on Friday to the State Agency BelTA.

Also, according to Vasilevich, the new draft law excludes cases where “termination of citizenship helps to avoid responsibility for a crime.

The deputy said that according to the document, it is planned to expand the list of those who have the right to obtain Belarusian citizenship in a simplified procedure and to introduce a new institution for Belarus – restoration of citizenship.

“In addition, it is proposed to clarify the grounds for refusal to accept an application for citizenship acquisition and to establish them to terminate the consideration of such an application,” – said Vasilevich.
