Barcelona authorities deprived Juan Carlos I of his gold medal

The City Council of Barcelona decided to take away from the Honorary King Juan Carlos I a gold medal, awarded to him on behalf of the city back in 1992. Today this question, initiated by representatives of the nationalist parties “Together for Catalonia” and the Left Republicans of Catalonia, was put to the vote.

As a result, the votes of 15 representatives of these political forces were enough to approve the initiative (10 advisers from the party of the mayor of Ada Colau “Barcelona en Como” abstained, and the remaining 14 representatives of the Party of Socialists of Catalonia, “Citizens” and People’s Party in the absence of two more advisers could not do anything).

The proposal to deprive the honorary king of the city’s gold medal was put forward after Juan Carlos I temporarily left the country amidst scandals and accusations of illegal activities and concealment of large funds in Swiss accounts.
